One of the most scenic hideaways in the
Bahamas, Long Island is divided by the Tropic of Cancer and bordered by two very different
coasts; one with soft-white sand and broad beaches on the Caribbean Sea, the other
showcases rocky headlands that descend suddenly into the riotous Atlantic Ocean. The
terrain varies from high cliffs on the northeast, to low hillsides in the south, which
fade into stark white flatlands where salt was once produced. Long Island was one of Columbus' early stops and a
monument marks his landfall on the north coast. Natives
supposedly called the island, "Yuma"; however, Columbus named it
"Fernandina", after his benefactor, the King of Spain.
Real estate on Long Island offers many
wonderful choices in beautiful beachfront properties. Compared to other Bahamian
real estate, Long Island is comparatively undeveloped with a potential for considerable
investment appreciation.
